Bangkinang, December 17, 2022, a technical guidance session on making yam chips was held at the Bukit Payung Village Hall in Bangkinang District, Kampar Regency. This event was sponsored by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Indonesia (UNRI), in collaboration with the Pekanbaru branch of TSA (Tanoto Scholarship Award).
The event began at 2:00 PM WIB and was opened by the Bukit Payung Village Secretary, Heri Susilo. The event continued with presentations by Imelda Yunita, S.TP., M.P., Yanti Nopiani, S.TP., M.Sc., and Rahmadini Payla Juarsa, S.T.P., M.Si. The event concluded with a demonstration of how to make yam chips by participants, accompanied by the committee.
The event was attended by women from the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) of Bukit Payung Village and several yam farmers. Participants also included members of the village's youth group. Participants were very enthusiastic about the event, despite heavy rain that had fallen in Bukit Payung Village.
Bukit Payung Village is a producer of jicama. This technical guidance activity aimed to provide the community with knowledge on how to increase the added value of jicama by processing it into jicama chips. In addition to chip processing, the activity also provided information on packaging and marketing jicama chips.
This activity is expected to motivate participants to develop jicama as a regional commodity. (E.RPJ)
